Why are the starwood(no s) points lost?

I called Amex and asked. After going through things it's clear the fault was on my end. Moreover, I asked specifically what happens to points if I pay the balance in part of full before the cycle is complete. The gentleman assured me that I would receive points.

i think this is the most unclear/confusing post on the entire board. MacDan, i dont think anybody understands whats going on, maybe you'd like to elaborate?

I think MacDan was asking if he will get points for spending if he paid off the balance before the statement closed since the statement would close without an outstanding balance- i dont think the question was "when" he will get the points but "if". (this can really come into play when someone has a small CL with the SPG card and has alot of spending to do more than the CL and wants to earn points for all the spending. He could essentially keep on paying off the balance a few times a month in order to clear up the CL so he can earn all the points- hope that want too confusing)
