no.. i dont think a base is necessary at all! its just as safe to belt the car seat into the car... and why wud you wanna schelp it all the way to israel! on another note- i just flew to israel from ny- and i actually brought 2 strollers, one BIG convertible car seat (i bought a bag to put it into from marshalls for 20$, and good thing i did cus the bag came back a bit ripped on the bottom.) Their very not careful with the luggage i find (strollers always come back with a nick somewhere!) AND i got a 10 kilo luggage piece for the infant (i flew delta) which i didnt know b4 hand.. and ive done some pretty crazy traveling with a child and 4 carryons + diaper bag + backpack +laptop bag..., moral of the story- its not worth the schlepping!! Why are u schlepping your uppababy here to israel? u live here? or traveling for vacation? cus thats crazy to do that schelp... find s/o that can lend u a light weight travel stroller, or buy one (its cheaper than the bag you bought) cus even if uppa baby guarantees theyll fix it why would u wanna bother with that? another idea is that you can post online if s/o is looking to bring in a travel stroller form america- and ull bring it in and use it for the time your here- there are always ppls looking to bring in strollers...
Because we have a 7 month old and the way the sidewalks and roads are in Israel, a travel stroller will end up hurting our son....Also, our umbrella stroller does not go back, so if we want him to fall asleep in the stroller, we need a stroller that will go back....
I have nothing witty to write here....

i dont think thats accurate... I mean most of israelis have old school strollers that barely have wheels and their kids seem just fine! And there are plenty of travel strollers that the wheels are very good as well ( i for one have a cybex callisto stroller which have gr8 wheels for being a travel stroller and lies down completely flat, and i have an inglesina swift stroller- which it happens to be great as well) But if you dont mind schlepping your big stroller around than kol hakavod.. its just ive done lots of traveling with a big stroller and lots with a travel one- and you cant compare the travel....

I bought a car seat holder for $15 I check it in reg for no cost on continental and most airlines. As a car seat is a free checked item. Done it many times and have yet to have had a prob.
I haven't done it as I get free checked bag with continental anyways. But in the car seat bag there is plenty room to throw in a few additional items at no cost. They never actually opened the bag to confirm it really was a car seat.
Can you recommend a good bag? I was looking at this.

Sorry this may be to late, Just saw the post now, I bought the one they have in Babies R Us its ok does the job, We now travel with two car seats, unfortunately the facing forward car seat does not fit in the bag, anyone have a good bag for that one? So far flying United and Airtran it wasn't a problem because they have bags to put it in,  but flying American they don't.

Uppababy was just damaged on flight - latch to close the stroller was broken.  Flew AA.  Any advice on what to do? Contact AA/Uppababy/BBD/Amex?

They usually have a claims desk by baggage claim. You should call AA if you didn't speak to them at the airport.

Can I expect anything from them? Damage wasn't extensive but still very frustrating.

Edit:  baggage claim desk said no damage to strollers is covered at all, suggested to were letter to AA customer relations online.  Any advice overall to have it fixed?

May depend how much damage it was. When i went to Israel, they broke our snap-n-go and refunded us for the price of the frame.

Yes - purchased on Amex.  Didn't buy any particular baggage insurance.  They cover travel damage?

When I flew southwest recently when I gate checked the stroller they had me sign bag of the tag which had a waiver regarding any damage to the stroller. She said I am supposed to sign it every time but no one ever asked me before.

Not sure how they can jut say they don't cover damage to strollers...

Looking for some advice. I am Iy"H traveling to Australia with 2 babies under 2. I am not planning on booking a seat for either of them. Do you think it would be better to book business or economy? I am hoping for empty seats as flights to Australia are rarely full. On the other hand, can't really hope for empty seats in business...
Anyone have experience or words of wisdom?

No experience at all. But as you state, the empty seats are more likely in coach/economy.

Are you planning on making any stops? 3 Y would definitely be cheaper, but I would go with J.

How does it work with a baby in business class?
Excuse my ignorance, getting familiar with the forum, but not there yet. J is business? And y is economy?
