Maldives Honeymoon Questions
« on: June 19, 2019, 01:14:21 PM »
I currently have no status and no points with any program.

My wife and I want to go to the Maldives for our honeymoon in a good business or first class, and in a good resort.

We both have good credit with no recent credit pulls.

Origin city is JFK.

What is the best time of year to go?

Which credit cards should we open?

Which airline should we take?

Which hotel should we stay at?

My wife has no chase 5/24 and I have used 4/24. I have had Amex gold and plat. I have chase UA and Hyatt.

My wife has no travel cards.

It's a long answer with many options.

What is the best time of year to go?New year is the best but hardest to go on award ETC. You can try OCT - NOV, weather is usually good as well.

Which credit cards should we open? - Multiple chase Ink cards with 80k sighn up, it's a buisness card that wont add to 5/24, you can also get AA buisness cards.

Which airline should we take? Transfer Chase to United and try booking Turkish or other *alliance partner or with AA miles book Ethiad. These are your best bet for availability. There are many more options but this is the basic.

Which hotel should we stay at?  Marriot and Hyatt are your best options. You can open Marriot cards but try opening buisness cards as not to add to 5/24. Marriot has many good options including the new JW or SR. They both charge 85k per night with 5th night free, so with you and ur partner opening a couple of Marriot cards you should have enough points and you can transfer points up to 100k to other . If any of you open more then one card and want to transfer more, ask in forums and I'll respond.

Always praying for delayed baggage.

All year round is good weather but possibly of rain is the key. You can check Maldives weather website and look for historical data or others can Chime in with DPs.

If your opening CCs you'll be pressed with time going at the end of AUG.

If you have AS Cathay can be an option.

If you have more then one buisness you can get more then one INK or 2 ppl for the same buisness.

So I think my wife and I will both apply for the alaska cc and Marriott cc. Which Marriott is best? Can I do personal and business?

Marriott cc for as transfer, not for hotel. I think it should be enough for the flights between the Bonvoy and the alaska points.

AA is definitely the better option but availability in F is not that gr8 of a chance. You would have a better chance with EK, they have somewhat predictable award openings.

If you have more then 1 buisness AS can be a option along with personal BOA card.

AS charges alot for EK, so if you dont have an abundance of miles I dont think it's worth it. A 2nd option would be to do return from MLE with EK thru JAL with manageable YQ its 85/135.

Marriot miles for Maldives stays has gr8 value.

The Marriott card to open; there are many options I suppose you strategize around 5/24 and AMEX/Chase and read some articles on this topic.
