DDF DO: Alma Ata for 20 Av
« on: June 19, 2019, 11:54:39 PM »

Spend Chof Av in Alma Ata, Kazakhstan! All expenses paid except airfare. The airport you must fly in/out of is extremely remote with only a few flights per week on airlines which are not part of any alliance. If you're coming from Israel, it seems possible if you fly on Ural Airlines to ZIA in Moscow and then fly to KOV Kokshetau Airport in Kazakhstan. The only flight ZIA-KOV is Saturday Night/Sunday Morning at 12:50am so you would probably have to spend Shabbos in Moscow and then rush to the airport. The next flight out of KOV is Sunday at 8am.

With everything I just wrote above, how is it even possible to attend you're not flying private?

What are you talking about?

SU, TK, LH, EK all fly to ALA (the city is currently called Almaty, but is known as Alma Ata in Lubavitch parlance).
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Check Step 2 here: https://www.chofav.com/info
Book travel from your location to Kokshetau airport.
Looks like they messed up on the website since R' Levi Yitzchak zt"l is definitely buried closer to ALA. With that cleared up, anyone going?

You going to check out Shelek? (I assume that is the place referred to as Ch’ili. CMIIW.)

i took advantage of this program last year. last year it cost $50

my itinerary included SQ jfk-fra and then i connected to meet some friends in KBP LH and UIA
my return included ala-pek-hkg-jfk (ended up being reroute to ewr) CX in F others j

all J/F miles except uia

very nice program arranged. food was excellent and plentiful throughout
accommodations were acceptable. wifi is a little challenging

the organizers also paid for everyone to go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kok_Tobe in the afternoon the day before yahrtzeit
