If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

For all those who held on to this card for the last few years: it's been a wild ride, but I think this is our station, time to get out...

They are taking away so many benefits without announcing any new ones, is there something else going on?

The only thing that would make this better is if they increase the annual fee as well, again. :-(

perhaps a outpouring of letting citi know we are not happy about the change(read;complain) will work?

Is there a thread that discusses this benefit? I'd like to take advantage of it before it ends. . .

It is unconscionable what they are doing. How can they charge an anuual fee and then change the contract of the card. Its like paying for a loaded car and receive for the same price a bare one.

First of all, you can cancel until January 1 with prorated fee.  Second of all, the message claims new benefits will replace these.  As long as it's 5X I'll stand my ground and see what they announce.

nuts, why would you keep the card with the annual fee if they remove ALL benefits?

besides for 5x at restaurants, 4th night free can still be useful in some cases, even with the drop to twice a year and only portal reservations.

I find it hard to believe that they will stay without even Car Rental insurance. They might be switching providers, so the current coverage is being discontinued, something else will come in its place, and will be announced. If that wasn't the case, they might as well get rid of the AF on their cards.

Citi is taking lots of gambles. They did that with Costco, offering them 0% (or very close to that) for processing Visa, buying a book of business (and another marketing arm) that they hoped would put money in their pockets. That was a huge gamble that shocked AMEX, I have no idea how that is working out for them, time will tell. But they are definitely acting out of the box.

The 5X is not just flights - anything coding as a travel agency gets 5X, which is most OTAs also.

Right but without any of the trip insurances, why would you risk using this (unless you're buying 3rd party travel insurance)? Hopefully they do replace the coverage as some people suggested.

The bank’s new offering -- known as Pay With Points -- will alert customers any time they make purchases eligible to be paid using ThankYou points. Card holders will be able to select what purchases they would like to redeem for points using the bank’s mobile app. Each point will be valued at 0.8 cents when redeemed using Pay With Points, so an $8 purchase would require 1,000 points.

“Our customers work hard to earn these points and we want to make these points as rewarding as possible,” said Mary Hines, head of customer engagement and innovation for Citigroup’s branded cards business.

Thanks for the HT @Dan but does this:

say it better than what I put there (which even has "fly Emirates" in there for pun, or some others I saw when I was searching for gifs with the keyword dumbfounded)?

I would also suggest you poke some fun at Ms. Hines title as "head of customer engagement and innovation for Citigroup’s branded cards business", I mean, this is real innovation we're seeing here. And full engagement.
