As of tomorrow, SDV will shut down for all flights.

There's nothing that can compete with a small airport within a major city. The accessibility is just way too attractive.

I find it hard to believe that they allowed this moment to come without at least starting construction on some alternatives (I am also referring to the closure of Eilat airport in favor of Ramon, without at least putting rail service between Eilat and the airport in place).

What do you think, will they create an artificial island and construct an additional airport within the next two decades?

IIRC the last time I used SDV was when BA allowed early check-in of luggage a day before the flight, and the luggage was accepted (and boarding passes were issued - these were still the days of paper tickets) at SDV. Allowed for late arrival at TLV and avoiding long check-in lines.

I wonder how much longer LLHZ will stay open (though there are no commercial flights there). Took an aerial tour in a several decades ago out of LLHZ.

Really not a big deal for the Jerusalem folk. You get the small airport feel just as good from TLV T1. And closer.

Well it only helped Tel Avivians for the most part. It was pretty much redundant for most

They lost their small airport several years ago, though I've never been there and as far as I understand it wasn't as conveniently located as SDV for Tel-Aviv/Herzliya etc. I know someone who used to fly regularly between there and RPN and found it much more convenient than traveling by bus to Tzfas. But that hasn't been an option for several years.

There are probably 2-4 times more people for whom it was more than the number of people for whom it is not more accessible than LLBG..

The only airport that makes sense to grow is Haifa. They have the room and it is in an industrial area.

I once past Haifa about a year or 2 ago and saw huge signs protesting the idea of expanding the airport there, it sounded like they were planning to expand the airport (?)
