Do we owe it to: Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 is a federal law that states: "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance."

According to the Lawsuit, filed before the world cup, the USWNT were getting paid about 40 cents on the dollar as compared to the men's team. As stated in this article - https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/10/magazine/womens-soccer-inequality-pay.html. That article also seems to indicate that USWNT jersey sales and other revenues contributed to a $17m profit for USA Soccer.

I don't think you can ignore Title IX - but title IX is only for the united states, and has nothing to do with International sport.
