In general, the Swiss are very particular about things. They made me gate check my carry on when it very clearly fit.

Most airlines will do that on a fully booked flight. Especially later on in the checkin process.

Lots of empty seats (including two next to me).

I always plan on avoiding this game, but it’s so tempting...
