In general, the Swiss are very particular about things. They made me gate check my carry on when it very clearly fit.

They are Yekkes after all. It is to expected.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Any point in having someone hide the carryon during checkin?

Here’s a DP:

They offered to check my carryon for free while I was waiting to check in at ORD.

Most airlines will do that on a fully booked flight. Especially later on in the checkin process.
I'm not who you think I am.

Lots of empty seats (including two next to me).

I always plan on avoiding this game, but it’s so tempting...
