Which card to rent on?
« on: October 06, 2011, 04:29:03 PM »
My best cards are Sapphire preferred and Amex Gold, I gave both companies a call to see which would be more worth it for me, here are some of the (small) differences I was told of:

Length of rental to receive CDW:
SapphireL Up to 15 days
Amex Gold: Up to 30 days

How much is covered:
Sapphire: The amount of the car (excluding "luxury cars" -whatever that means, vans, and trucks)
Amex Gold: Cars up to 50,000 dollars (excluding trucks and vans)

There are many many differences, however only some are substantial to the average DDF user. If you know of any other substantial difference, or if you know the policy of other cards, please let us know!

CO/UA gives free primary CDW.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

When you say excluding trucks...  If a pickup truck , Dodge Ram or Ford F150 is in the executive aisle at national or get upgraded to one. Does it count as a truck, or suv? Will it be covered?

My old roomate is getting married and needs a rental car for a month. His father has an AMEX Plat...from what i understand it only has secondary CDW.

However, I'm not sure if he is covered under liability insurance

If he is however, Primary CDW would be an advantage.

If so, I was offering to pay for the rental with my CC that offers primary (barclays WMA or ink)

If i do this, am I putting myself at risk?
