Not if they claim that square is a large business (being that all transactions show up as SQUARE xxxxxxx (xx being the french press in this case)

true but someone I know called Amex and they said it'll work. And although you can't really trust what they say seeing that it is actually a small business it should be enough to get the credit posted manually if necessary.

How in the world does Amex know that it was one item not 4 that it should be an issue. Unless you mean one vendor

I don't seem to understand your question. If a Small Business sells something - anything, and you swipe your registered AMEX there, you will receive the credit.
