It seems to me that it's quite an old term which hasn't been used in general for a long time. I think the only problem here is an age difference.

It is still used by those that don't want to use the "N" word. They mistakenly think it is not as bad.

Trying to figure out how some can defend racist statements. I don't want to believe they are racist themselves.
