Someone once told me after 120 years when they get to Shamayim and G-d asks, Did you keep kosher? He'll say" I don't know, but I paid for kosher."

I think that sums it up sometimes. All the hechsherim, everything being so complicated....

i think dan is correct about this. pretty much every hashgacha including the "heimish" ones, rely on the ou in some way

I don't know anything about this, but I don't think the Bdatz Eida Charedis relies on the OU.
Well you are wrong. Because a family member of mine owns a store with Bdatz Eida Charedis. And he brings ingredients in from the U.S. with OU hechsher which the bedatz had no problem with after confirmed with the OU that they certify it.

I don't know anything about this. But I know many Israelis who don't rely on the OU so if this is true it will be a major scandal. I'd be happy since the Badatz money goes to fund Mea-Shearim-Harlem-land. If you can share details, please pm.

They have a presence. I've seen interviews with their mashgiachs.

The way I always thought it works is that more than one organization rely on the same mashgiach. So the OU and Badatz both certify a factory because the mashgiach works for both of them. I didn't think the Badatz relies on the OU on everything. Im curious now!

Just found out that there are indeed certain items that the OK won't accept as an ingredient in their products if it was supervised by the OU.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Hi guys,

We currently have the flights booked to be in Israel Wed 11/23- Mon 11/28 and would appreciate help with the following;

1) We want to spend the first night up north in Tiveria/surrounding areas, looking for decent hotel suggestions (doesnt need to be luxury but it needs to be decent) and nice place to eat dinner.

2) We plan on staying in J-M from Thursday-Monday, looking for a hotel ideally that we can at least walk one way from the kosel Fri Night, needs to be decent hotel but hopefully not more than $200/nt. (if possible). (walking distance to kiryat belz a plus)

3) What are our options for shabbos meals? are there any restaurants or hotels that have a good hechsher that we can make reservations at? We definitely need for Friday night, maybe Shabbos morning as well.

4) Any restaurants that we "must" eat at during our stay? Looking for nice meat place with good food.

Thanks for any help and tips!

I have the exact same itinerary...

Seriously, can we have an alert when a thread goes OT (or is it implied)
I almost missed one of the best lines on DDF because I wasn't checking this page.

I think there is a very common misconception. The OU is one of the most reliable, and relied upon hechsher in the world. But reliable not necessarily in that they are the "best hashgacha". They use many kulos that many people don't rely on, for example bishul akum in certain circumstances. However they are very transparent about this. So if the Eida wants to use a product certified by the OU they just contact the OU and find out exactly what's going on. If the standards meets what Eida requires they will rely on the OU mashgichim 100%. But that doesn't mean that if you eat Eida you automatically eat OU

We are debating between the "Hod room" at Kibbutz Lavi or the Rimonim hotel in Tsfas. (similar price)

Anyone experienced either or both that can help us decide?

there is a lot to do in tzfat including the candle factory, a small off the beaten track cheese factory I can tell you about, the artist colony and the old city...in Lavi the hotel might be nice and have an advantage depending on whom you ask but there isn't much to do on the kibbutz...

Putting all that aside and just comparing the Hod rooms at the K Lavi or the Rimonin in Tsfat, which would be nicer?
