4 Day Trip Bryce/Zion/Grand Canyon Itinerary Question
« on: July 31, 2019, 01:43:02 PM »
I started this thread in the wrong place and mods haven't moved it, so I am posting my new question here.
I have two options and both require approximately the same amount of driving.
Option 1:                                                         Option 2:
LAS                                                                  LAS
Hoover Dam/Lake Mead                                     Grand Canyon
Zion/Bryce (one day only)                                  Lake Powell/Antelope
Grand Canyon                                                   Bryce
Sedona                                                             Zion
PHX                                                                  LAS

What do you recommend and why?

Neither. Way too much in 4 days
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

you are missing 1 item on that list: RELAXATION. Are you going on vacation or biz?!
I was down there for 3 days I did lake Powell, Antelope Canyon and Zion and that's it! Flew into Page and outta St George. Almost no driving that way. Chill.

Yes it is a very packed trip. We are two adults and no kids. We have the option of not doing anything on any day we choose. These routes are based off minyan opportunities. I can skip Lake Powell, or Sedona and do only Zion or Bryce.
Option 1 does have us in Las Vegas for two nights. Option 2 has us in a different place each night, although staying in  Bryce and Zion are pretty close to each other.

@Dawie

I did similar but stayed in Page AZ
If you could find a minyan there that would make the most sense
LAS to Bryce is 4 hours
Bryce to Page under 3 hours  (Cool place a drop off the road is the Pink Sand Dunes)
(Horseshoe Bend, Lake Powell and Glen Canyon as well as Antelope Canyon are in Page)
You also have to book way in advance to get even the Lower Antelope Canyon, upper is likely all booked for the summer
Page to Flagstaff is 2:15
So  you would do the Canyon one day and Sedona the next

In your itinerary
Sun night in LAS
Monday 4 hour drive to Bryce
4.5 hour drive to Flagstaff
tuesday in Grand canyon 1.5 hr each way tues night in Flagstaff
Wed in page 2.15 each way Wed Night in Flagstaff
Thursday in Sedona
Fly back Thursday night

Definitely doable with 2 drivers

Looks like some of you disagree.
And I do not have 8 hours of driving on one day in either of the itineraries...

"Doable" doesn't mean you *should* do it. It depends on what you want out of the vacation. You can either go and enjoy 2-3 experiences, or you can go and "do" places to cross them off your list without experiencing them at all.

I did it by staying in Page for 2 nights and Sedona for one
No drive was more than 3 hours and not more than 6 hours in a day
Was an adventure trip not a relaxation trip (cant say DW like it as much as i did) (and not as brutal as a JNB-CPT and back, drive)

Sedona                                                             Zion
PHX                                                                  LAS

What do you recommend and why?
1 makes sense, not sure if doing Bryce and zion in one day will work for zion, surely not if you;re doing Angels Landing
I would maybe do Bryce and Pink Sand Dunes for a one day from LAS
Hoover can be done on the way/back from Grand canyon

Doing Hoover on Monday is because I end up staying in Las Vegas that day to meet the minyan on Tues in Bryce. Option 2 is a loop back to Las Vegas instead of out of PHX.
I appreciate that it is a lot of driving, that's why I am trying to find the balance(for us) between hitting the major sites and having an enjoyable vacation!

This is almost certainly not true.  You may not be able to book online, but there are many, many "companies" that do the same tour, some more tech savvy than others.

Just last week I mentioned to my neighbor who will be in Page that he should go to Antelope Canyon, and he said that he was able to make a reservation.

Many travel websites report that because things are booked so far in advance around the national parks, there are usually last minute cancellations by people whose plans change.
