I was told that they could drive me to the terminal in the rented car and when I asked them they told me that they where short of staff, even though there was only one guy doing all the work and the two of them helping one other guy...

so to be clear, the "really bad service" and "bad experience" you had was that they didnt drive you to the teminal when they were understaffed? gotta love the jews...

I have a bunch of coupons from Daily Getaways. It says on the back of each one: "Specialty car classes such as H, F, W, Z, L, V, P, K, X(Cool Cars), and S are excluded."

Now... supposing I reserve a G, and then somehow talk them into giving me a nicer car, like a convertible or something... does the above sentence mean that the coupons will no longer cover my rental? Or will they still work, since the original reservation was for a G?

It'll still work.

Okay, another n00b (to the Daily Getaways, at least) question. I tried searching the forums, but didn't find the answer for this:

I'm trying to reserve a Premium out of ORD starting tomorrow afternoon for two days on Avis.com, and it's pricing at a whopping $411.89 - base rate $289.98, taxes and surcharges $121.91. The back of the vouchers say I am responsible for taxes, concession recovery fees, etc. etc. etc. Is this for real? Does that mean that besides for the coupons, I still have to pay $121.91?!

Also, I seem to recall reading here on DDF that there is a "workaround" for getting your credit card to cover CDW/TP - i.e. since CC coverage requires that you pay for the rental on the CC, someone (I think it was Dan) had some kind of mehalech whereby you give the necessary info for the coupons, but don't actually submit them until the end of the rental - so if there was damage, you can keep the coupons and pay for the rental with the CC, and file a claim with the CC insurance. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

TIA!

Just the opposite, you give the CC info for rental pickup and upon returning you tell them not to charge your CC because you want to pay with coupons.
I don't see how they would rent without a CC on file in any case.

there are 2 types of taxes:
(1) % based  ( state sales tax)
(2) flat fee  (ie domestic security fee)

usually when you use a coupon it deducts the amount of the coupon pre-tax, meaning  if your total was 400 and your coupons are going to deduct 400 , so your total is 0 dollars, so if you're paying type (1) taxes, for example 8.25% ny state tax that equals 0 dollars, however if you add the type (2) flat fee taxes regardless of how much your total is you're still paying those taxes.

B'kizur you gotta see how much of that is type (1) and how much is type (2)

Right, but the coupons say on them that you must provide code TUTA037 at time of rental. So at the very least, even if I withhold the coupons until I return the car, it's still in the system that I'm using coupons. Unless I don't really have to give the code, and it's just a scare tactic?

Thanks for the clear and concise explanation!

So now I'm wondering... let's say there's $20 in fixed fees that I end up having to pay. If I pay those $20 with my WMC, will that qualify as having "paid for the rental in full using the CC" for CC insurance purposes (a la paying award ticket taxes/fees with an Amex gets you their baggage protection)? Or do I have to withhold the coupons until the end of the rental, as discussed above?

This is important, because in the event of minor damage, the withholding-coupons shtick will end up costing me the full price of the rental; thus, for $200 damage, I will have to pay the full rental price of $400 just to get it covered - not worth it. (It's as if the full price of the rental becomes my "deductible".) But if paying taxes/fees qualifies, then no worries there...

I tried using the Double Upgrade coupon UUGA043 and it says you need to use a specific AWD with it.
Anyone know which one to use??

recently I viewed alot this as well as the Hertz master thread and I realized that when it comes to mileage-earning codes both threads still have alot to offer.
besides the point that we don't have here to much of those codes, also when we do see it here and there, its often cluttered deep inside the master threads, not up do date, and sometimes we have new threads on each new offer.
which made me think of opening a constantly updated master thread designated solely for those mileage codes, for avis, hertz, national all in one thread

what do you guys think. yah or nah ?
thanks.
