I made a reservation by enterprise, then called them and asked them if I can take the car to canada. They said that even though the corporate im using has unlimited miles, if I take it to canada then the whole rental turns into 150 miles per day (and .25 per mile thereafter). Is there any truth to that?

When you make a reservation in the NY area, it typically says on the contract that it can only be used in the tristate area.

Is that an enterprise only thing? is it enforced?

I imagine if it's not stated in the contract they can't just change the rate, maybe try renting for a day sometime before you need it to see full contract details

A friend of mine recently got a letter from Avis saying that if he drives his car the way he drove car X at speed X at X location they will place him on the DNR...
They may just realize from the amount of miles driven...
He could have taken it to Lakewood and back 5 times not nearly enough.

Well it was kind of their fault, because I went back and had them update the contract. They did update the paper contract, but in the system the state was still excluded. When I pointed it out they waived it. It was many years ago, but I think they wanted to charge me 20 cents a mile. My point just was that they can tell.

1) Enterprise rep at a location told me he would only be able to tell if I were to get into an accident or skip a toll.
2) GPS trackers a privacy breach and illegal.

Not if it's in the contract...IIRC Hertz mentions something on the terms that are written on the envelope

So you guys think it was a lucky guess, that the rep took, and just assumed that the car entered a state that wasn't on the contract? There may be different policies and procedures for different parts of the country. The concept deffinetly exists.
