please help me choose trip insurance + medical

im travelling with my family to europ for succos whats my best options for mainly medical insurance while in europ

amex

Amex travel medical protection - $18 covers a whole family for a month. Covers everything.

Ya, call   1-800-297-2900

Make sure to call to activate it THE DAY BEFORE  your trip. If you call on the day of they won't give it to you. From when ever you call, they activate it that night at midnight, then you have to call when you get back to cancel (They'll try to convince you to keep it). You pay $18 per month prorated for however long you keep it.

If you need a simple docter visit with kids for ear infection, culture, ect, are you covered with this $18? Free medicine as well?

I believe it only covers you when you are more than 150 miles from your house. Although when you call to cancel they try to convince you to keep it - i guess their reasoning is that that way when ever you go out of town your covered without having to sign up.

Seems like a steal at $18/month/entire family, but I am a bit confused as to why people would need this... does regular medical insurance not apply when in foreign countries?
