How many sets of wires did you connect to the timer?
Sounds like it was a junction box for those areas, and instead of leaving them setup as a jumper, you took the jumper wire and connected it the same way you connected the black (hot) wire going to the light fixture.

I ended up connecting them all. Just kept trying different combinations until the light started working.

Caution about buying cheap air filters. If the filter is not good quality you'll notice a difference in engine performance and maybe gas mileage. Too thick and it's literally choking the engine. I'd recommend sticking with trusted brands and replacing them less often rather than replacing more frequently with off-brands.

I got EPauto and Fram. Those seemed to be good based on online reviews - are they?

Having a whole bunch of lights controlled by a single switch would be a real perk for shabbos timers, but a pain the rest of the time. But if the lights used to all be controlled by separate switches then they must all have individual load wires and it should be possible to have it both ways. Assuming there are multiple load wires connected to the timer now, OP would need to add a new wire and a new switch (after the timer) to control just the dining room light and then all the switches will work individually when the master switch is on.

Fram is definitely a brand name. I don't know the other one but maybe someone else does.

It just seemed like $10 was cheap for a Fram or Purolator. I guess it depends on the car, but for my car it would be $20-$25 and only off brands available for $10-$20.

So the engine filter you linked to is an off-brand, but that doesn't mean it's bad. If you're using it now and haven't noticed anything wrong then it's probably fine. My experience was with Ecoguard that I bought because it was half the price of Fram but I started to notice a difference in engine sound and worse acceleration right away. Obviously I'm more biased because I've been burned but just putting it out there to be cautious and look out for side effects if you try one.

Jury is still out on this one.

Success - can turn off multiple lights with one switch, can plug extension cord into one of the effected outlets to use on sukkos

Blunder- can't have the light in the front of our house on without having the dining room light on, cant charge a phone/laptop in any effected outlet while dining room light is off.
