awesome! called the backdoor number and spoke with a rather nice guy...he said it was processed and declined, the reason being that i had just opened the united card in july. they wanted to know why i was applying for a new card so soon...i explained to him that i'm moving cross country next year and wanted to keep those expenses separate (it's actually part of the reason i want the sapphire too).
he was happy with that response, he then asked a few questions about my reports - notably my student loans that have lates from 5+ years ago. i explained i thought they were in deferment since i had deferred another private loan at the same time (mistakenly thought i was deferring them all) and as soon as i found out they weren't, i took care of it right away and then ended up consolidating (and the consolidation loan has never been derogatory in 4+ years).
put me on hold for another 2 minutes, came back and approved for $3500! it's already showing in my account!
question is...now what? considering their main basis for the denial initially was the fact i had opened another card four months ago, what's my best option here for getting the sapphire preferred now? or am i probably out of luck on that?
