Imo, Chabad doesn't come in count here, it's either you believe in old school parenting or you go for the modern approach.

That might simply be because hitting a child in front of others introduces the aspect of shame and embarrassment to the equation. IMHO those are much worse than any physical pain (which is generally not the real focus of slapping/hitting) and are to be avoided.

I'm not familiar with any decent person using a belt, nor am I familiar with anyone violating century old Chumras at his father's Seder table. I'm confused so I won't say anything, but again, my feeling is that you can't speak for the general public.

Generally parents who do hit their kids, don't do this in front of other's.

It's actually a compelling point where kids will want friends over and or guests ,parent has to watch themselves.

Neither do I. Dentist and Doctors are also causing pain, No one ever argued that a slap in the hand is fun. You're dismissed.
