Having diversity of background helps bring diversity of ideas.

I believe he's saying that they don't necessarily have such diverse backgrounds. i.e. the rich black kid probably has more in common with the rich white kid than the poor black kid.

Very well, but which board is more likely to have diverse backgrounds? One which has a mix of male, female, oriental, hispanic, black, indian, etc. of one which is all white male?

Exactly. This is why regarding the article I wrote

It is appeasement of those who caused the great recession by those who made it worse.

and only discussed the advantage of diversity in response to this.

Personally, I don't believe diversity should be a goal onto itself, but if we're concerned about diversity in hiring, we should cast a wider net.

This is easier to do at the entry-level and middle level- for example, we don't have enough people of X or Y demographic, let's make effort to recruit at colleges that have higher percentages of X and Y.

Probably a little harder to do at the corporate board level.

Besides, whether or not someone is "straight" has nothing at all to do with background.

Depends. Is the rich black kid Jewish? Is the Jewish kid religious or secular?

Race is one of the top factors (if not the top) and that is why you all refused to answer the question. Your original premise was also wrong.

While you're at it, explain to him that when he goes in a luxury car from his mansion in a gated to community to his private school that he really has more in common with the black kids living in the projects than with his white neighbors.
