I mean they took HKG by force in the late 180ps so I'm not sure them keeping it forever was correct either.

They shouldn't have turned it over to the Chinese. Should have let them build up an independent country with a strong military and made a pact to defend them against Chinese aggression.

HKI was a handover in perpetuity. Some of the new territories were 99 years.

In general protests are dumb, but this cause really affects hundreds of millions of people, not to mention significant parts of the world economy.
Thats kind of the point, hoping economic pressures will change something

This is not true. I flew TLV-HKG on 12th August, landing on 13th August (day 2) and connecting to DPS. We landed ontime (30 minute delay due to long flight time) and flight HKG-DPS had 2 hour delay as aircraft was late due to previous problems. Airport was calm landside, albeit quite a few cancellations.
I beelive that most flights left OK on 13th August, but in the afternoon there were problems for pax originating on HKG getting through passport control and security so the flights were marked as cancelled even though they left with connecting passengers only.
