Bringing this back :) - who would of thought backyard simchas would be a thing now.

Question: Whats the chances the early COVID commitments of less extravagant simchas will stick?

They were gone within weeks.

Slim to none, unfortunately.

People weren't willing to forego them at the cost of schools shutting down. Good luck.

https://www.semahot.com/

The Syrian Community is doing this and it’s a very simple , brilliant concept. Why can’t we do it for the broader Ashkenazic community and the more people that sign up, the less everyone has to contribute.

I'm a Semahot member and think it's amazing, but I don't think it would work on an extremely broad Ashkenazi level. It makes more sense at the local community level, a fund for each locale.

To me financially responsible is for a wedding to look like a Sheva brachos/vort.

Yes it's extreme for today, but I think it's best that way.

If everyone made weddings that looked like sheva brochos, then sure. But once you start treating poor people differently you may as well give them a bottle of wine and a couple challahs.

I got married a little later than most, so I was involved more than the average chosson. I also wanted something small and simple. But this side needs this and that side needs that, and add the one or 2 things that are meaningful to the couple, plus this is only a little bit more and so much nicer... Man tracht un G-tt lacht.
