Funny you say that. Why do 40% of the  speeches (and probably 60% of the speech time) have to be in a language that not everyone understands? Enough with the mesorah crap it’s a European language with absolutely nothing special about it.

But at least a subset of people can feel elite for the extra 20 minutes that the Yiddish speakers need to ramble on.

As a Sephardi, you can demand speeches in Hebrew.
And for Ashkenazim, it's a lot more than a "European language."

How about the language of the country we live in. Is that really too much to ask?
If the speeches are meant to inspire and a make a kiddush hashem, why exclude a large amount of people. Unless of course, giving a speech in a German based dialect is more important than making a kiddush hashem.

I think it has a lot to do with who is speaking. The ones who speak yiddish will speak yiddish.
