In the words of Chazal,  כל העולם כולו ניזון בשביל חנינא בני, וחנינא בני דיו בקב חרובין מערב שבת לערב שבת

Translated into today’s terms: The guys sitting in the warm boxes munching on hors d'oeuvres and fine beverages, are doing so in the zechus of the talmidei chachamim huddled in coats and scarves eating Reismans brownie bars and drinking water in the nosebleed section!

Some of those in the boxes are real “Zevulons” (the “adopt a kollel” box etc.) if they get equal schar does that mean that they share in the בשביל חנינה בני as well?

Anyone know if there will be plain hot water? Thinking of bringing some tradition soups.

Is a thermos with hot water ok?

How about the language of the country we live in. Is that really too much to ask?
If the speeches are meant to inspire and a make a kiddush hashem, why exclude a large amount of people. Unless of course, giving a speech in a German based dialect is more important than making a kiddush hashem.

You are aware the Yiddish is just a derivative of high middle German right? So "yeshivish" English speak has the same significance. If the siyum were in Hebrew, you'd have a point.

If you bring headphones, you will be able to listen to English or Spanish translations. Relax.

Rav Aharon Kotler said that people (in his days) should speak Yiddish for three reason. (Some wouldn't apply today)

1- To be a Havdalah from the Amim

2- So that Jews around the world can communicate with each other even if their native languages vary. (not applicable today)

3- It has become a holy language because Torah was learned in Yiddish for hundreds of years.

1- We need a havdalah from the zionists too. :)
2- Maybe.
3- Nobody has been using hebrew up until very recently, plus, a language made for unholy reasons will never be holy.

The language is from the troah. Whether you want to use modern Hebrew or not, the core is still from the Torah. According to the Rambam it's a Mitzvah to speak lashon hakodesh.

The language is most definitely not from the torah, it uses words of the torah and many times contorts their meaning.
In addition, the language was intended with the express purpose of promoting an anti-torah philosophy. That in itself makes it unholy.
The Rambam would be referring to an actual holy tongue, not that trash.
R' Ahron Kotler himself ruled it was assur for the Bais Yaakov to teach in that language.
