It was 37 at 1pm, maybe, and there was wind. Plenty of proper layers. Staff with experience said it was cold.
Like I said, I snowmobiled for 13 hours in negative temps and strong winds across Svalbard glaciers. Not going to give people a pass here.
If you were cold then by definition you didn't have enough or the proper layers protecting you.

13 hours on a snowmobile in a day definitely takes a physical toll. But with good warm layering you can be just fine with the temperature and wind. You can't just go out in the cold for extended periods of time and expect to tolerate it without the right gear.
Yes I could have worn ski gear. I didnt see anyone in ski pants. I did see people that were woefully under dressed. Chasidish men in their reklech or with a cheap G&G coat with scarves. Or Yeshivish chevra with their Hat Box wool coats and scarves and the scarf used to hold their hats on their heads.
Fair warning - Any PMs sent in response to forum posts are fair game for ridicule in public.

How can you compare dressing for snowmobiling in the Arctic to sitting at an event in an open air stadium in New York in January?  :o :o :o

4 hours and 35 minutes in the freezing cold? How did anyone think that was a good idea?

Why is there no retractable roof?

Millions of football fans thoroughly enjoy games in the same exact weather. I imagine that a retractable roof in MetLife would be insanely expensive, but your typical fan is overjoyed to brave the cold regardless. Anyone complaining why the Jets would schedule a game in December would be laughed at to death.

I bet most people there last night were warmed by the beauty of it all.

Not comparing, but it's silly to criticize when people could have just dressed warmer.

Of course. How many of these people haven't been outside in the cold for more than half an hour at a time?

I was in thermals, with a heavy snow jacket (forgot my sweater) and wool pants. Scarf, ski cap, gloves, and tow warmers. Sitting in one place gets to you. I wasn't frigid by any means, but it became relatively unpleasant at a point. Luckily the wind in my section (213, first row) wasn't terrible.

Sounds like you needed more mid layers. It doesn't have to be unpleasant.

What Dan is trying to say, is that CLE is much colder.

In conclusion - NYC area needs an indoor venue capable of holding more than 25k.

So people were unprepared.
The weather changed. The night before there was a surprise quick rain event that even meteorologist were taken by surprise on the New Years eve shows. They predicted 45 degrees for the Siyum on the day befoe and the Agudah ran with that number in its updates. So yes, people were unprepared. But comparing it to preparing to snowmobile the Arctic is a bit far-fetched.

What section? By publicized I mean even if it was in section A, there still should've been a sign in section Z so at least people who want to make their way all the way over, can.

Not trying to compare at all. Point was that with proper layering you can be warm in any temperature, so if you were cold that just means you didn't have proper layering for the temperature.
If the forecasts were wrong, that's another story.

Then you didn't have enough or the proper layers on IMHO.
It was 37, not -7. Even if you're sitting still, you can tolerate that just fine with enough and the proper layering.
@Something Fishy, post your photo DO packing list...

Yes and no.

I was shooting eagles the other week and stood in one spot for a couple of hours. I was wearing my full Iceland winter setup, yet I was colder there in the 30 degrees than in Iceland with 20 degrees and 50mph winds. Without moving around, your body simply cannot keep warm - especially the extremities.

Of course, with enough layers people would have kept people warm yesterday, but most people never spend any amount of time in the cold while stationary, so they'd have no idea how to prepare.

I watched it again partially. The people waiving at Ani maamin aren't kids..we just watched a whole video about the 6 million kedoshim and moving addresses by Rav Sher, gifter, Solomon, shwab etc..

The guys waiving their hands like it's a concert.. and supposedly I didn't get the event?

There's a time to laugh and a time to cry.. even I know not to tell jokes at a funeral

Absolutely, but

Some may not own anything warmer.
