ConEd considering allowing no-fee CC payments
« on: August 22, 2019, 01:30:23 PM »
ConEd (NY Electric Utility) has an advisory community where they send polls and questionnaires.

Most recent poll had the following question:

In the future, if Con Edison were to provide an option for residential customers to pay their monthly bill using a credit/debit card with NO additional fees, how interested would you be?

I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Orange & Rockland

That doesn't concern all of us outside of that  ;).

Would be so cool if I can pay my electric bills by cc (especially the ones I get in the summer!).

IME, yes. But that's more of a concern for when you do pay a fee, because it's a flat fee (for residential customers), so you want want the fee to be the lowest percent of your payment that it could be by paying as much as they allow.

Is the rest being credited towards your next bill, or is a refund check being mailed to you?

So no point of overpaying.

i'll find out but i'm good either way... the cost was de minimus and insignificant given the $0 plan fee. i end up paying it over 24 so it was less than the actual bill

Max payment they allow is $1500.  Same $3.35 fee no matter what the payment.  I always pay the max and they hold the excess as a credit for future bills. (  .22 %  (.0022))

What's the logic for lending money for so little margins??
