I have a 7 night bonvoy certificate which expires this week. Since it has been extended a year ago they are unwilling to extended again, only to give me 5000 points for it. Any suggestions?

God Save The Points: LOL: Marriott Says "Free Nights" On Points Are No Longer "Free".

I love his closing lines, especially the closing sentence.  :D

I have had multiple bookings, at least 3, maybe 4, where I booked with points or free nights, and was still billed a random amount after checkout. This was in different hotel and different states. The previous times I called up the hotel and was told that they weren't paid by Marriott for the booking, so they billed me(?) or something to that note, and then reversed the charge.

Earlier this month I stayed at a Sheraton and paid in full with points, and found a $150+ charge on my card after checking out. I've called the hotel twice and they can't even figure it out. Called Marriot (not the hotel directly) and asked them why this keeps happening, but they try to deflect to the hotel.

I'm a Platinum member (so what, lol). Thinking of just disputing this charge and forcing them to provide proof as to why I was charged, but I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar situation and might have some insight.

ETA: Apparently this happens a lot. TPG has an article on it.

Well, finally got a call back from a GM (or something). This time it was something else, which explains why they coulnd't find it.

I made a second booking for 1 night (second night of my stay) for my brother. I paid with my VentureX via Cap1 travel portal (to use my credit). Apparently the Cap1 payment didn't come through, or was declined, so they passed the charge along to me.

Interesting to note that a $217 charge to me is billed as $162 to Cap1.

They reversed my charge and gave me 5k points as a goodwill gesture.

Always a mess with Marriott.

The brilliant losing $300 credit being replaced with $25 monthly dining credit
So basically you can double dip by applying before September. This makes the card much more compelling to apply for (if there are any good offers).

There is a URL  to bring up the SNU upgrade option.
Did you try it?

I've been gold from spending 10K back on the SPG card and due to covid it's constantly been extended. I noticed yesterday that I've now been downgraded to silver and since the spend requirement is now 25K I don't see myself ever getting it again :-(
If it's not free shipping it's not worth it.

Get another card and you're covered (one personal and one business only).

Thanks! Why do I need both, why not just the business one then?

You get 15 nights credits from the personal card and 15 from the business. Personal and business stack, personal/personal or business/business do not.

So the advantage is getting 30 nights, but if I'm looking just for gold, then the business alone would suffice?

So I see it as $30 more for gold since the current (old) SPG card is $95/year.
