CC with good protection? Not happy with Amex spg

What credit card would protect you? I had an issue with Amex spg business. I made a hotel reservation over the phone and they said it can be cancelled. When I called back an hour later, they said I can’t cancel it. I called Amex to block the charge, they couldn’t do that. They said once it goes through, just put in a claim. I opened the claim, and they closed it. This happened four times. When I spoke to a manager, he said once you authorize the charge, Amex can’t protect you.

I want to know what credit card would protect me. This was only a $240 charge. If Amex can’t protect me for that amount, it makes me nervous thinking about my larger purchases!

Also, any advice what I can say to Amex?

Very sticky area. I disputed a $500 charge on my citi double card and was told the exact same thing, since I signed the receipt and agreed to the charge there's nothing they can do
