It does not necessarily constitute an ohel mafsik and therefore one can avoid the tzar and be mischayev. (according to some even a shlak may not passel a succah)
Better to sit in covered Sukkah than indooors?
Do you really have tzar being outside in a rain jacket and rain hat?
Sure.

Tzar in hilchos succa is measured in how one would live in his house throughout the year. Would you stay in a house with a leaky roof in the rain?

interesting. Most other chassidim disregard the gemara on eating on shmini.

In that case I also wouldn't stay in my house if it was 50 degrees, 90 degrees, had bees in it, etc, etc...

The poskim say that coldness and bees would patter you. I guess it is up to the individual to decide when he cant take the succa no more...

I'm just curious, do all you non-Chabad guys actually sleep in the sukkah every night of sukkos?

Yeah, I have to stay out of it because I don't. I used to try when I was a bochur, but I would always get sick after one or 2 nights (especially if I was awakened by rain) no matter how many blankets I bundled under. I tell myself I'd sleep in the sukkah the whole time if I lived in Eretz Yisroel, it makes me feel better.

Explain how that makes you feel better? That it's G-d's fault 'cuz he sent us out of Israel?

As in, I'm rationalizing to myself that the only reason I'm not sleeping outside is the weather. Israel would be an example of a place where the weather is generally more conducive to sleeping in the sukkah. Don't know what you thought I was saying to get all twisted up about it.
