פעם סיפר לי אחד שטס בחוה"מ סוכות, שהחבדיניקים ישנו כל הטיסה בשביל שלא יצטרכו לאכול, ואחרים אכלו כל הזמן כדי שלא ישנו מחוץ לסוכה.

No joke, my father spent 20 hours this sukkos flying from PVG to NY...

It's definitely not Halachah, I don't even know if it's officially brought as a Minhag. It's more of a "Hergesh" thing, albeit one that is more or less universal amongst Lubavitchers.

Hard to understand how y'all are on such a high madreiga that eating in the rain = snickersbars.

A man once rebuked young Velvel Soloveitchik for drinking water out of the sukkah. He asked him "how can the Rav's son be seen in public doing that?". Young Velvel went back to his father (Rav Chaim) and told him the story to which Rav Chaim replied-"Keep up what you're doing". He explained-"first we got to make sure we're doing everything we MUST do. Then we can start worrying about doing extra things (which are already ruled upon to be muttar)."

A big lesson in life.

Ya it's one of those cases where their minhag/halacha is inline with the standard litvishe practice (shulchan aruch) and the rest of the chassidim do differently.

I go to the sukka on shmimi atzeres by day to drink water while its raining.

I always found it interesting that R Chaiken would emphasise eating in the sukkah S"E while not speaking about it rest of Y"T...   (probably because rest of Y"T is obvious)

Also why no Koheles? (not that I'm complaining, bit never got answer)

We do but without official Piyutim or Tefilos, we just make it a point to eat something small in the sukkah before the end of Shmini Atzeres.
