Chabad Minhagim: Pros & Cons

One other interesting Chabad wedding minhag:
In other weddings, after the chupah, the couple is walked to the yichud room.  The eidim check out the room, and leave and the couple goes in and locks everyone out.
By Lubavitch, the parents and others walk the couple to the yichud room.  Someone puts a silver spoon down in the doorway, and the couple steps over it to go in. Then the parents enter and give the couple something to eat. (Whoever is in charge of the chossons 'Rebbe shirt' takes it off the chosson and takes it away.) There's so much mazal toving,that sometimes the mesader starts shooing people out so yichud can start.

This thread, in true DDF spirit, has gone WAY OT.

What started out as one of the most hilarious threads and adequately belongs in JS, has branched off to discussions of Minhagim and their backgrounds, which might belong more on GD.

So, in an effort to bring this thread back to its origins I propose that it be renamed: "Chabad Minhagim: Pros & Cons for those contemplating conversion."

And I will add what I see as a major pro:

Chauvinism (as in: we have the right version of Yiddishkeit, we daven in the correct Nusach, etc. etc.) is (rightfully so  ) an acceptable thing.

This is not a story that remains a secret. How many other weddings have you heard of where the Chupah took place around 400 miles from the סעודה and שמחת חתן כלה?

That being said, everyone likes to embellish a story, so I can't attest to the veracity of what went on in the background, unless someone can produce a document.

I always thought that the beard and shaitel condition was there from day 1.

Also, tell anyone without any Lubavitch background about the distance between the place the Chupah took place and the Seudah / Simchas Chosson Kallah took place the second to last time the Rebbe was מסדר קידושין, and they simply won't get it. (להבדיל, almost like Goyim cannot get what a Yiddishe life is all about).

I was referring to Rabbi G"M Garelik actually. Although I seem to recall that Rabbi S Lew was the last one. After the Rebbe had already stopped he made an exception for Rabbi Lew's shver.
All this can easily be checked up in the album מקדש ישראל.

What were the circumstances? IIRC Sassonkin was quite a while after not doing it, as a special exception due to something that I cannot recall now.
