I have always heard people say you ask for the salt but people tend to make a shaking motion with their hand.  There's no reason to but that that's what they do.

Alternatively, make sure Challah, knife, salt and towel are all ready in their proper places before you wash.

Who knew saying tehillim is a change in prayers.

The daily tehilim was instituted by the Baal shem tov,  saying it after davening was instituted by the frierdiker rebbe. Chas vesholom to call it a "modern change".
A makrie by tekios is a real thing discussed in shulchan aruch with specific and detailed instructions. Chas vesholom to say it's a hefsek, it's less hefsek than "pass the salt". However it is the chabad custom started by the rabbeim who did not blow shofar but instead were makrie, that they pointed instead of calling out.
Thone that in the past have mocked the tzadikim who established these minhagim will continue, everyone else can respect them.

Well you know some Jews have removed mechitzas from shuls and others allow women to read the torah, but OMG CHABAD SAYS TEHILLIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dunno, even as a Lubvaitcher, it still feels weird to me that we switched out shema and shemona esrei for Tehillim. But I do it with kabolas ol.

I dunno, even as a Lubvaitcher, it still feels weird to me that we switched out shema and shemona esrei for Tehillim. But I do it with kabolas ol.

Sometimes I wish people would have as much Kabolas Ol as you do, rather than cut corners. A pet peeve of mine (though luckily not often applied) is when the Shliach Tzibbur decides to walk away (or say a kaddish, if he's a chiyuv) before concluding the entire shiur tehillim. What in the world could take precedence over a few more Kapitlech Tehillim?

Most recent occurrence I experienced was next to the Ohel on Erev RH. There was a captive audience there that was going to say Hatoras Nedorim, why not take the time to say the full shiur (including 3 extra Kaptilech) tehillim before starting the Hatoras Nedorim?

Changing the nussach hatefila is a big deal. Not comparable to those things at all. But still a big deal.
