Changing the nussach hatefila is a big deal. Not comparable to those things at all. But still a big deal.

Fwiu often shiur starts right after davening, whether it's a short halacha, mishayis, or a sif chofetz chaim, isn't that terrible as well? To change davening like that?

This reminds me of the gadol that said at least they are adding rosh hashanas not taking away.

Approx 5 kapitelach after davening in order to recite the entire sefer over the course of each month.

Additionally, the entire sefer tehilim is said prior to davening on shabbos mevorchim.

Most recent occurrence I experienced was next to the Ohel on Erev RH. There was a captive audience there that was going to say Hatoras Nedorim, why not take the time to say the full shiur (including 3 extra Kaptilech) tehillim before starting the Hatoras Nedorim?

interesting anecdote: several years ago at a pesach hotel I noticed people running out of davening early. I wondered where they were running since breakfast was always fully stocked fir several hours. I mentioned this out loud to someone and he shared an interesting observation. He said he had been in prison for a period of time and noticed that there were people who left davening early. He couldn't fathom where they were running. After mentioning it to someone in prison he said it's basically based on habots developed when you had excuses for leaving early....
