Author Topic: jailbreaking iOS 5 (Read 3969 times)

You are able to jailbreak iOS 5 (not on iPhone 4S and iPad 2 though) although it will be tethered meaning every time you rebot you jave to connect to computer. There is also an app called Semitether that you can download after you jailbreak. this will allow you to reboot with connecting to computer but not all apps work after reboot.

I'd wait till there is an untethered break. Not worth the hassle, IMHO.

Does anyone have an update on jailbreaking iOS 5 (or the latest version 5.1 ?)

i have an itouch 3rd gen that is version 4.1 and i want to upgrade it to the latest version but i dont want to lose all my jailbroken stuff.

1. How do i Jailbreak again if i upgrade? and what will i lose when i upgrade?

2. how do i back up all my data (cydia / installious downloads etc...)? and restore them when needed

There is no jailbreak out now for 5.1 they are not sure if they are putting it out or waiting for ios 6
You missed your chance 5.0.1 was the last jailbreak

that is only for 5.0.1 which you can't upgrade to anymore you can only upgrade to 5.1 and that has no jailbreak

there is a workaround by signing iOS 5.0.1 manually with iFaith

To do that, though, you’ll need your SHSH blobs from that firmware.
and he does not have that saved

you would be surprised. i had a jailbroken 4.3.3 and somehow cydia saved the SHSH blobs of 5.0.1 on my device before i ever touched that version.

If you have a iPhone 4s with 5.0.1 then the GEVEY sim will work. AFAIK it won't work with 5.1

This is not a jailbreak, just a work around to use a locked iPhone

yes cydia does automatically save your shah blobs so if he had that then he might be good to go
