Non-Jewish Kids Magazines
« on: December 03, 2023, 12:27:59 AM »
I was thinking of ordering National Geographic Kids and Highlights for my kids. I used to love highlights growing up. But what type of values do these magazines give over? Do they push certain ideas that don't align with Orthodox Jewry? I understand that everyone has different feelings about what's acceptable, but some companies push agendas. If it's just puzzles and educational info then I'm not concerned.
Does anyone subscribe to these magazines that can give some input? Thanks

  • Location: The value of a forum such as this one is not in that one can post a question and receive an answer, but in that the question has most likely been asked before, and the answer is available to him that will but only use the search function.
  • Programs: 1. Search on google. 2. Search in the right board of DDF with a general word or two. 3. Read the wiki. 4. Read the thread. 5. Ask away.

You can be sure that NG is full of Darwin's ideas, everything was evolved over millions of years etc. It has no effect on me but I wouldn't give it for my kids.

Talks & Tales / שמועסן מיט קינדער / שיחות לנוער Has plenty of quality content including וואונדער פון נאטור (Not sure what it's called in the English version). Unfortunately publishing of the monthly stopped in the early 1980s IINM, but the sets are available and are actually great material. Unfortunately it's not in color or modern graphics.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Seems like (at least some) English content available online:

We get the younger version (high 5).
I don't recall anything offensive (unless you consider masking outdoors offensive)

Thanks but I was specifically asking about Highlights.
