New law went into effect today here in New York State (just signed yesterday) that every school must have a moment of silence along with a discussion about September 11th. Dont know details.
sounds a little over reaching for government.

Was wondering if they would teach my kid about it in 3rd grade today.
But not yet. I guess 4th or 5th grade?
My 2nd grade daughter came home with a paper with the 9/11 story to practice reading.
If it benefits even just one fellow DDFer, its worth posting it.

BTW I also remember the Arabs dancing in the street near BP...

So they didn't have giant screens neap BP showing this clip?

Jewish history, at certain ages. I doubt they get to cover even 20th century, let alone 21st.
Just checked with my 11th grade daughter. They do learn about the Holocaust, but nothing more recent than that.

What about Pearl Harbor?
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

I didn't ask. But I believe they only learn Jewish History.

Awful that high schoolers aren't being taught basic things about the country they live in, especially when so many of the victims and others affected were part of the frum community in NYC.

Clearly not everyone here has the same idea of what the purpose of sending their kids to yeshiva is...

I mean this is like basic stuff. What's the harm in keeping this from young adults? Aren't teens more at risk by not knowing about terrorism and how that directly affects their lives?

When my wife complained about the standard of education to the Rav of the community he told her exactly that and added that if we want a higher standard we should hire tutors or send the kids to another yeshiva. :(
We took his advice to heart

I think we should split this off.

Education is a parents job. If you count on the schools to educate your kids they may not learn things that are important and may learn things that are very unimportant.

Agreed - there are plenty of other threads written about the state of secular education in Yeshivas - plenty of discussion here - https://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=105181.0
