Which laptop should a school buy for its students?
« on: September 12, 2019, 10:28:22 PM »
My school currently uses a very outdated laptop for the students to take tests (I believe they're still running Windows 7, ridiculous I know). im trying to do some research as to which laptop will be the most cost efficient and student/user friendly that I can present to the school. It doesn't need to be anything top rated, just durable enough to last and fast enough that it won't time out during exams. anyone have any recommendations? thank you

Is it all browser based?

Then chromebooks would be a good cheap choice

+1 or Ipad, maybe you can get your program to work on them.

It seems from their site that there is an online version you can use. (Definitely worth calling them up). New Chromebooks are typically $250-300 per, and you can probably get a much better deal if you're buying that many.

Windows 7 is fine.  I don't understand why its not enough to take a test, that's for sure..

P.S. I still use Windows 7 (with 3rd gen i5, 8gb ram, and 500gb ssd), and i'm extremely happy.. feels faster then most new Windows 10 PC's...

I totally do not see a reason to buy a new computer.  Unless its a bloat install, or hard drive dying, there is nothing wrong with a Windows 7 PC (and if those are the issues, windows 10 is the same if not worse).  You should feel extremely uncomfortable asking the school to pay for new computers...

Y'know, chances are it is the program that is slow and not the laptop.
I'm not who you think I am.
