Kicked off AA flight - Looking for best approach
« on: September 18, 2019, 11:32:22 AM »
Posting for a friend - trying to help him out.

We just had a crazy story with American Airlines and I was hoping I can get help on how to approach the situation. I was traveling from LGA to YYZ with 2 work mates. We get to the gate last and they were already making issues that only two of us can board the flight even tho we were on the same booking. After a few minutes they end up letting all three of us on board. A few minutes later after we are all settled in our seats, the stewardess comes back and says one of us needs to get off the plane.

We got really frustrated because we were in our seats ready to go. She said they had a weight problem and there’s nothing she can do. Not knowing what to do and if we should fight back, we decided one of us will get off not to make a Chilul Hashem (the whole plane was focused on us at this point) I took video off him getting of the plane and picture of his boarding pass too. After he was off the plane he tried re-booking a flight and get compensated for it. The lady at the desk tried denying the story and saying it never happened, he was never on the plane and he’s a lair and a crook, this was just 5 minutes after he was kicked off.. craziness!! Anyway once they realized that he was telling the truth they tried giving him a $400 voucher and make him sign that he was compensated. I told him not to take the voucher and not to sign.

If anyone knows of any way I can go about this please let me know!
Thank you

Does he have a fight? Once you board a plane can they force you to exit? Don't they have to ask if anyone wants to volunteer?

See “involuntary bumping”: https://www.transportation.gov/individuals/aviation-consumer-protection/bumping-oversales
They must have a record of the boarding pass being scanned.

The following is an exception to compensation for bumping: Weight and Balance - Weight or balance restrictions that apply to planes with 60 or fewer seats for operational or safety reasons.

Good catch. OP, what aircraft type was it? Some of AA's RJs have more than 60 seats, but the ERJ 140s that usually fly that route do not.
