No idea (which I guess added to the... creepiness), but "place to daven with a minyan" sounds much less creepy.

-New Kosher Special says they'll delivery for free with a $40+ order.  I don't see a website or menu for this place (anyone have one?) but online reviews seem positive.

-Jerusalem Pizza says they'll only deliver on a really big order, approx $75 or so: http://www.jerusalem-pizza.com/html/our_menu.html

Anyone ever eat in those places before or know of other places that may deliver?
[/quote]

When i used to learn in linden back in the day we ate breakfast by the kosher dunkin donuts, lunch at jerusalem pizza and supper at new kosher (all on the same half block!) like everyday.
Jerusalem pizza is not IMHO dirty and makes fantastic specialty pizza's i'm a big fan and go back whenever i'm in the neighborhood,
new kosher special is pretty good chinese but nothing to write home about
and dunkin' donuts... well ya know is dunkin donuts.

Personally, I think New Kosher Special is excellent. They've got the best General Tso's, and many of my friends / family agree about the place. I'll be getting some food there next week iy'h on my way to ewr for my return 2 EY. If they're not charging for delivery, you can consider the difference between what you want and 40 bucks as the delivery charge.

New Kosher special; is that the one in Elizibeth?
If yeah then I'd say it's probably the best chinese I've had.My father used to have business in that area and would bring back food from there.  Now it could be since I havent had it in a while I'm only remembering it being that great
You prob never had manalapin's!
I go there a lot it's very good but friends tell me that elizibeth is better.

You guys are getting me excited for this place!
Worth going there and eating it fresh as opposed to delivery to airport?

It would obviously be better in the store especially since it might not be hot when it gets there. But it should still be good enough in the airport not to warrant the hassle of going and coming.

Hmm...$34.94 a/i for a car rental for 4 hours.  Can it be worth it?

I lived in Elizabeth for 4 years. Yes the GT is good, soups are good too, but IMO the place is way over rated. Never really found anything else on the menu that was descent

I haven't had from Elizibeth in a very long time, so it's hard to compare.

Reminds me of the urban legend about the travelers who told their travel agent they wanted to rent a car during a 1-hour connection in DFW because "we heard it's a really big airport, so we'll need a car to get around". ;)

IMHO, it's worth it if you have anything else to do or anyone else to see in the area (or even just "urban sightseeing"). Personally, if it were just for the food alone, I would take delivery.

And don't forget to factor in gas - even if it's a short distance, it's still a few bucks.

Dan I can assure you that as a man with your culinary experiences , you will be utterly disappointed if you rent a car and drive to any food establishment in Elizabeth NJ. While it might be acceptable for a decent and cheap $5.99  meal on the way home from IKEA , New Kosher Special is a kosher chinese take-out store which looks like it was frozen in time somewhere around 1976. Its  ok for a delivery because at least you will be eating your food out of new take-out containers as opposed to the Melmac plastic plates and dirty silverware they will give you if you do make the trip there.

+1, but its not THAT bad... still its not like they're  advertising a 5 star establishment  :)
P.S. they got rid of the ceramic plates and real silverware, now everything is plastic

« Reply #36 on: July 09, 2012, 04:33:30 PM »
Couldn't find Dan's thread on the topic maybe someone can direct me to it...

I have an 8 hour layover in EWR...how much time should I allow to get to/from Teaneck plus security? Flight arrival is at 8am and departure at 4pm. I am *G.

What was the restaurant that delivered for $40 minimum?

TIA

Why go all the way to Teaneck when you can jsut go to Elizabeth, which is just 10 mins away and find kosher food there?
