Credit Card with photo on it
« on: October 24, 2011, 08:33:53 PM »
Which credit cards let you put a photo on the card for added protection?
I know some Bank of America cards do

And I know Citi does. But do they offer it on ANY card?

I was thinking of getting the thankyou premier- Will they allow a photo on that card?

Lol- I have no idea.. It's not for me. I think the person wants it as another form of ID.

Why don't they just get a DMV issued non-driver ID?

I hate when places ask, it's rare that I carry ID with me.

Stores are not allowed to ask for ID.
If they do you can report them to the CC companies for non-compliance.

http://www.mastercard.us/support/merchant-violations.html
There are 4 vioation boxes there to check:
-In order to make a MasterCard purchase, the merchant/retailer required a minimum or       maximum amount.
-The merchant/retailer is adding a charge for using your MasterCard card.
-The merchant/retailer required identification.
-A merchant/retailer displaying the MasterCard decal in their window refused to accept       my MasterCard card.

VISA: 1-800-VISA-911
MasterCard: 1-800-300-3069

They can't ask for ID so you aren't hassled and are swipe-happy, MC makes more money this way so they put it in their merchant agreements. It's a scam because with a lot of fraud the merchant pics up the tab.

Pretty sure the reason is to prevent/hinder ID theft. A cashier given access to a credit card number in addition to (possibly) a full legal name, a driver license number, and a home address is not a good combination.

Interesting perspective, though whenever I see cashiers asking for ID they usually just check to see the names match and the ID never leaves the customer's sight.

I just wow the cashiers by letting them pick a card from my wallet and I rattle off the numbers by heart :D

Unfortunately there isn't much you can do with the big chains as MC won't jeopardize their agreement with such merchants just because of a few complaints (I doubt they'd investigate each individual claim).

The chains need MC more than MC needs them.

What makes you say that? Aren't they interdependent?

MC will survive just fine without a chain of stores, even a large one.
The backlash against a chain that stopped taking a major cc would cause major damage for the chain.

Costco? :P

(or are you saying that dropping a CC brand is more significant than not accepting one in the first place?)
