Author Topic: Amazon Payment to wrong address (Read 5139 times)

I accidentally misspelled my bro-inlaw's email address when I sent him a payment. I only realized it 2 weeks later when we were trying to figure out why he hadn't received the payment. Problem is the misstaken address was real and the person accepted it. I contacted Amazon and they said if the recepient accepted there's nothing they can do.

Anybody have any advice? I was thinking maybe disputing the charge would work, but then again the charge is from Amazon and it was technically legit. It wasn't a small sum, so any ideas are welcome.

unless the guy is real honest than why would he give it back he prob already closed that email account and now has the money and no way of tracking him

I'm gonna send an email to the mistaken address, but if the person is honest enough that they'll send me the money back they wouldn't have accepted the payment in the first place.

The first step is trying. Then, if necessary, escalate.

Yup definitely dispute, I would do that today, as well as contact the person.

Idk about u but I would think twice before accepting a payment from someone or some email idk . It might be a virus, scam etc..

At least from Amazon (and a couple other sites as well), what risk of virus would there be if, instead of clicking on embedded link in the email, you went to the vendor's site and logged in? None that I can think of.

Yes, it's virtually a PayPal clone.

Just cleaner and easier to use IMHO.

With the glaring advantage of no fees with sending payments from CCs, and the glaring disadvantage of having $1,000 limits.

So I emailed the mistaken address, and it looks like they've closed there account, delivery failed. I also disputed the charge with chase (Sapphire) and I'm getting ready to send a request to reverse the payment to the address in the link elikay posted. Other than that, I can't think of anything else to do.

You should have gone thru Amazon first, IMHO.

By disputing, you're essentially making a dispute with Amazon (as the merchant), when in fact they didn't do anything wrong.
