Hotel shampoo
« on: October 02, 2019, 11:11:25 PM »
While I strongly oppose single use hotel shampoo on environmental issues I am mourning my used up supply of pharmocopia aegan oil soaps I helped Hyatt regency in Seattle clear out. I went to buy more and realized it's cheaper to just burn points to crash hotel soaps and the aegan oil collection isn't sold. ..

Am I a moron for buying bigelow soaps? My issue is, how do I know which hotels have which soaps?

Seems a little contradictory, no?

yeah but till they end it..a full 2 oz bottle use isnt a major waste, but the fact is thats like 2 weeks of use. A 2 night stay in hotels usually results in replacements.

The main issue that some people have is the waste of plastic, not shampoo

If guests were using entire bottles, the impact wouldn't be as bad. But lots of people are there for 1-2 nights, use a small percentage of the bottle, and then the rest is wasted.

Tamper-evident large bottles seem to bee the best approach.

Correct, as well as many hotels replacing bottles that are almost full on the second day etc.

Were one to use the full 2 oz bottle, sure the environmental impact would be much less, but it's not happening.

I'd be just as happy refilling my 3 oz travel plastic containers.

Also 2 oz bottles can't be recycled but bigger ones can be.

Sorry but that's ridiculous. The big  environmental impact comes from the plastic being thrown out, not the shampoo.

As if hotels are recycling either.

Wouldn't feel comfortable using it, like who touched it before and used it, what is if it was tampered and someone put something else in? Who knows what can be there or germs

You're already relying on them to change linens, clean bathroom, clean water glasses, and disinfect everything else. This seems pretty minor, especially if there's a locking mechanism.

Would you be ok if there was tube of toothpaste or bottle of mouthwash in the room from the previous guest ?

No, but in this case, you'd have some level of assurance that the contents are secure.

This is more similar (kasharus aside) to using the coffee maker or drinking glasses.

And yet we stay there anyway and don't expect brand new sheets or pillows.

Those travellers who want to bring their own shampoo can.
