you should def add bourbon to the poll!
it is much different than scotch like asking if orange juice and apple juice is the same
best bang for your buck in scotch is glenrothes special reserve (or maybe its calles select reserve) its always on sale for like 3 bottles for 100
and a good bourbon can be had for less than 50

I personally like Scotch.  I think he best value is the Tomintoul 16yr which I know has been mentioned.  Also love all the Livets and Dalwhinnie is also very good.
I don't like Vodka but everyone is raving about a new bottle called Crystalhead.  The bottle is shaped like a skull and people really like it.
