Isn't Bourbon/Scotch/Whiskey all the same thing just distilled in different regions?

Theoretically yes, but try drinking Dewars, Crown Royal, Jack Daniels, Johnny Walker (even the green/blue is blended!!!) etc and you'll immediately agree that scotch is in a class of its own.

Different regions and different rules, for example bourbon has to be from corn

After I wen to yeshiva in Israel for two years the site of Vodka or toot banana drink makes me nauseous.

Most of the time I will enjoy bourbon over scotch if the bottle is under $50 but once its over $50 usually scotch is my drink of choice

$50? Good bottles of both bourbon and scotch can be had for less than that (in the right places). Perhaps that's another reason I'm a Vodka guy ;)

I think Glenlivet 15/French Oak is a good value for a great drink at about $40 or so.
