A general word of advice on this forum: never say "You've never tasted, experienced, or done anything close". People have done some pretty extreme things here.

I did a capcanes vertical of 1995,99,01,02 etc followed by a covenant then netofa vertical followed by 23 wines of John Hajdu, ive drank Smith haut lafite, Yarden katzrin, domain roses camile 2005 (only 900 bottles made)

Ive done some pretty crazy stuf

I had a good bottle last shabbos a Merlot from Bravdo
Shiloh - Mosaic, Legend, Secret Reserve.
Herzog - Napa Valley Cab, Chalk hill reserve

Herzog and Shiloh are really the only ones making top quality mevushal... something that is actually a cause for debate in the kosher wine world.. purists argue that the wines are better off being non mevushal, decrying mevushal as an evil, wineries claim that mevushal is a necessity and that the fact is these wines are just as good.

Robert Parker awarded Shiloh Legend Mevushal a 91... that is like, most non kosher wineries could only dream of a 91

In a blind tasting, few can tell the difference, maybe some of the most advanced developed palates.

Herzog also has a wine from Padis vineyards called Brilliance, its mevushal now although they are coming out with a mevushal and non mevushal option soon.

I think The Cave is overrated. Id stick with Herzog and Shiloh.

There are a few mevushal french options, le clare, tour de seran, le crock, rollen de by, they are OK to Good, in this case the non mevushal flagship wine Haut Condissas easily towers above them.

Thanks

Even Herzog, stuff like the napa cab can age well etc.. the main argument against Shiloh and Herzog mevushal is merely tht wine purists are pained that such awesome wines are, at least as they see it, harmed by mevushal.

I cant say if that is that.. I have had Herzog and Shiloh mevushal wines 10+ years old that were AMAZING..

My eye surgeon had a guy buy him a '75 lafite in a paris restaurant, twice.. each bottle 500 euro.. he loved the bottle of Shiloh I gave him.... While that was the merlot, not mevushal, still, it shows that you can impress the non kosher crowd if you research right.

Thanks, actually JJ was supposed to come by for some wine tasting tonight.. I have a coravin which is boring alone but fun when visitors strike.

All you need to do is travel or watch TV or movies or read a book or simply any thing and it dawns on you that the non kosher world really is much richer with wine..

I was in LA for KFWE and my sister wanted to do Ditmas, I spied Rabbi Don Yoel Levi and really gave him a mouthful, thankfully he asked my name and knew my dad, send regards and actually I hope, took me for real...

But my issue was with, I wanted to do a wine event at Zak The Baker, after hours... the catch is, its under OK and non mevushal is as verbotten as pig.

I felt this was unfair, to wineries, to people, to the food industry.

And should Zak want to cater an event elsewhere, the OK would require a mashgiach on site, who would ban any non mevushal wines,

WHY?!?! Absolutely NO legit reason... other than that they can and you have no say..

Oh but I have a say.. I run RCC Miami.. I do between 30-45 wine events and dinners a year... restaurants are cut out, small time chefs prosper.. we have venues and hashgachot are obsolete..  CHEERS

You're sure Brilliance belongs to Herzog?

I cant answer that.. the owner was at the last RCC, he brought a maGnum of the 09... it was INSANE!!!!!!!

I think the reg bottle was 90$ duty free im not sure, but to be worth it ? im not sure... it was amazing, these grapes were used in carmel limited edition wines etc.. but the price tag is steep.. I DUNNO.

AFAIK they did not make it. I know the guy behind it. He used most of the stuff for him self. AFAIK when Herzog found out about it they panicked and bought it off...

I'll be around the week before Pesach, no hemming and hawing. (Unless you're serving non kosher meat in which case I'll just have the wine)
