Just got the Garmin nuvi 40LM for 99$. So far I'm pretty happy with it. The maps are only for Continental US, so if you are looking to use in Canada or Hawaii, this wont be great for you.

Garmin is indeed the top selling brand in the market, but I would anytime buy a TomTom over a Garmin.

I have a TomTom XL340s which I'm very happy with, (very old model, I know!)

And as much as I tried getting used to a Garmin, I still went back to my good old TomTom.

Google the question. I was in a vehicle with someone in Eretz Yisroel using Waze I think it spoke Hebrew.

In a rush to buy a GPS. I had a TomTom one (3rd edition?) and loved it. It was an older model but i always found it to be quick and not delayed, The screen accepted my commands and clicks with ease. I state this all being that many of my friends swear by the Garmin; i hate it, the touch screen drives me nuts and is slow. the re-routing when you make a 'wrong' turn is even slower. Only while using the Hatzolah mapping system installed onto the GPS for the Catskills can i list some good features.

My original device didn't have traffic, is it necessary? does it really work?

Please weigh in with your pros/cons, and post deals as well. I need this device in the next 48 hours.

  • Location: The value of a forum such as this one is not in that one can post a question and receive an answer, but in that the question has most likely been asked before, and the answer is available to him that will but only use the search function.
  • Programs: 1. Search on google. 2. Search in the right board of DDF with a general word or two. 3. Read the wiki. 4. Read the thread. 5. Ask away.
