A Masters degree with a concentration in accounting from FDU through PCS is much more valuable than a degree in "business" from a weak college.
I don't know what accounting at excelsior is to compare. ...

With a MA in accounting you can take the CPA, and also gain actual, marketable technical skills = a job...
im very confused. Most people on this forum talk about how fdu degrees are poor quality,  but you guys are saying its a respectable college? Am I missing something?

It's not an ivy league school, but it is recognized as a normal acceptable college degree that people in the area have heard off, and they generally respect the fact that you at least tried to get an education....
Excelsior and the rest vary between online scams, jokes or unheard of..

For accounting degree purposes, the big 4 generally do not really recruit from FDU but mid tier definitly do. (Also, you can definitely get into the big 4 from FDU. ) No one recruits from online colleges....

Also, there is a fundamental difference between just a degree and a professional certification. If you are becoming a RN, speech therapist, CPA etc the college degree doesn't really matter that much. People probably make fun more of a BA from FDU etc...

I hear, but I see people over here making comments like "avoid fdu" and there's a whole thread here with people discussing the legitimacy of it. I wonder if they know of people who've struggled to land a job or something... if they were just putting down the ba, why would they single out fdu and not just discuss the value of ba s in general?

BA's are a starting point. You cant do anything without them.

Yeah, well my friend went to FDU accounting thing and he was totally recruited by the big 4.

And my second cousin's friend also went to Fordham and now is at Wachtell, Arps, Light Liability Partners.

I said that "the big 4 do NOT recruit from FDU but mid tire do"

Legal disclaimer: Just because they do not recruit it does not mean you will get a job. The fact that mid tier do recruit does not guarantee that you will get a mid tier job

IMHO, the FDU undergrad program was a joke. On the other hand, the Accounting program was very serious and really forced you to learn and do well. I know many people who have gone on to big 4 and big firms from FDU and it is starting to become more recognized by the big firms.

From what I've been hearing the Big 4 are cracking down on the FDU degrees.

I heard they are only accepting FDU degrees, on the theory that anyone who would pay for a 4 year college to become a CPA is obviously an idiot.

Not saying I disagree but they're beginning to realize what a joke it is.

The master in accounting from FDU is virtually exactly the same quality as any other non ivy league school.

I don't think that's the perspective of one of the Big 4 that I'm familiar with but I could be wrong.

Looks nice!

Anyway Mordy, would you consider a refurb or new only?
I agree. As I said, the big four do not recruit at FDU. But FDU is better than an online school..

But between me and you, debits and credits are just debits and credits... They all teach out of the same books and the quality of the instructors is the same, so quality wise the MA is the same as the rest.

Never mind that. Aside from basic accounting knowledge you can pick up most of it on the job. Guess it's like that with most professions though.

I think it will help.

I think any top Grad School will help.

(Really unofficial/unorganized here!)

Which school ?
(You can pm me with details)
Thanks!

Medical and law school are not "grad school" they are both professional schools.
