Marriott Travel Package Advice Needed

I was told that they will not allow me to use the package since the hotel's rate is "point saver" at that time. To me this is ridiculous. If the hotel was more expensive I could hear their rationale but not if its cheaper.
Anyone have experience (or advise) with this situation?

HUCA, never heard of this.

You can also book different dates and call hotel directly to change dates.

+1 Travel packages go by category, regardless of the points amount

I have an old pre-merger 7 night cat 1-4 cert and can't find any clear info if this could somehow be used for a cat 5 property. Paying the difference doesn't seem to be an option but does anyone here know of anything? It just got extended to 8/21 and is listed as partial package in my account.
