AF hit on both our fyf Aspire cards. Gonna downgrade or cancel. They didn't have any decent retention offers that would make me wanna pay the $450. (They offered $75 for 1k spend or free 15k points with no spend)
I already spent the $250 resort and airline credits.
Before canceling, is there any other housekeeping I need to do?

AF posted last statement which is due on the 1st. Apparently,  if I cancel/downgrade today I'd be refunded a prorated $430.
Is it worth keeping for a few more weeks to spend the $250 airline credit or is that a clawback risk (like the new language they added regarding the $250 resort credit)

Wait to get the new anniversary night, spend the $250 on airline and the $250 on hilton resort, then downgrade to the surpass, spend $15k for another night. You can wait for an upgrade offer after.

I wonder what the risk is with the Plat triple dip that @Dan post. Presumably, if you cancel in your 3rd cycle in Jan after getting the airline credit, amex will claw back and potentially close other cards. IMO double dip is safe, but triple is pushing your luck

Jan will be my 3rd cycle but I actually didn't even use the credits in 2019 so I only used it in 2020.

That's what I plan doing, specifically for the anniversary night. The resort credit was already used and it's a bonus. If it's clawed back, it was still worth it.

I'm not that worried about the actual clawback. More worried about my account possibly being flagged or even shut down.

No they just claw back, they don't shut down for this reason only.
It's not your issue if you went to a hotel and paid with a specific card and Amex decided to refund the transaction.

Multiple reports last year or clawbacks and eventual shut down

So, 2 random data points (1 from a site that brags about getting shutdowns) among thousands of people that do this, with zero proof of what it's from.
I like those odds.

So you think its safe to apply for a Platinum in Dec 2020, and cancel Jan 2022 immediately after receiving $200 reimbursement for 2022 calendar year? Even if they dont shut down, they will likely clawback, or give a pop up when you apply for your next card.

I did it 2018-2020. Didn't get a popup on the Plat card I just got approved for yesterday.
Same with P2.

this is exactly what Dan is suggesting  to do here when he says:

If you apply for the AMEX Hilton Aspire Card now you can get $250 in airline fee credit by 12/31/20, $250 in airline fee credit in 2021, and $250 in airline fee credit in January 2022 all during your first cardmembership year before your next annual fee is due!

Dan, should I have any concern if doing this for the $250 Hilton resort credit?

Some claim I'm already on shaky ground just for the fact that I have the Fyf Aspire

P.S.
Sorry for not using your referral link. Couldn't resist the FYF.
I think I've made amends with all my other cards I got using your links...
