Wait to get the new anniversary night, spend the $250 on airline and the $250 on hilton resort, then downgrade to the surpass, spend $15k for another night. You can wait for an upgrade offer after.
Be careful of this.. https://www.doctorofcredit.com/american-express-updates-terms-on-hilton-aspire-250-resort-credit-to-prevent-abuse/
Thanks. Is there clawback risk? see below regarding Resort credit
That's what I plan doing, specifically for the anniversary night. The resort credit was already used and it's a bonus. If it's clawed back, it was still worth it.
I'm not that worried about the actual clawback. More worried about my account possibly being flagged or even shut down.
No they just claw back, they don't shut down for this reason only. It's not your issue if you went to a hotel and paid with a specific card and Amex decided to refund the transaction.
-1Multiple reports last year or clawbacks and eventual shut down
Shut downs for what?

So, 2 random data points (1 from a site that brags about getting shutdowns) among thousands of people that do this, with zero proof of what it's from.I like those odds.
So you think its safe to apply for a Platinum in Dec 2020, and cancel Jan 2022 immediately after receiving $200 reimbursement for 2022 calendar year? Even if they dont shut down, they will likely clawback, or give a pop up when you apply for your next card.
I did it 2018-2020. Didn't get a popup on the Plat card I just got approved for yesterday.Same with P2.
There is still time for amex to clawback loldoctorofcredit.com/american-express-airline-incidental-clawbacks-intensify-now-clawing-back-2-years-worth-of-credits/
